Project experience: Malaysia
586 solar street lights across Malaysia
Two projects in Selangor and Penang now light their roads entirely with solar power. SunMaster supplied 586 off-grid solar street lights: 260 in Selangor and 326 in Penang. The sun charges every light by day, and the LEDs shine all night, with no grid connection and no power bills.

Selangor: 260 lights on local roads

Selangor: the road loop at night, lit only by solar street lights.
In Selangor the project combines two models: 80W all-in-one solar street lights and 50W UFO solar lights. Together they bring safe, off-grid lighting to the local roads.
| Lights | 260 |
|---|---|
| Models | 80W all-in-one solar street light, 50W UFO solar light |
| Solar panel | 220W 36V and 80W 36V |
| LED | 80W and 50W |
| Battery | 24V 30AH and 12V 40AH |
| Controller | MPPT 24V 10A |
Penang: 326 lights on 8 m poles

Penang: 120W LED solar street lights on 8 m poles.
In Penang, 326 solar street lights with 120W LED modules stand on 8 m poles. Each light is a complete off-grid system with its own solar panel, battery and MPPT controller.

How an off-grid solar street light works
Every light in these projects works on its own. During the day the solar panel charges the battery, and the MPPT controller gets the most energy out of the panel. At night the controller switches on the LED, powered by the energy stored during the day. No cables run to the grid, so there is no trenching and no electricity bill.

How an off-grid solar street light works
- No grid connection needed, so new roads can be lit wherever they are built.
- No recurring electricity costs for the lighting.
- Brighter nights and safer roads for drivers and pedestrians.
