How many times have you heard about LED efficiency? In fact, this is something that solar light companies boast of when offering their services to you. However, you must be cautious with the random sales talk that might make you fall prey in the hands of low-quality suppliers. Now, to help you determine whether they’re telling the truth or just sugar-coating the real worth of their LED lights, here is everything you need to know about LED efficiency:

LED efficiency has significantly to around 50% for household consumers over the recent years, and prices of LED lighting systems have noticeably dropped even without government incentives/initiatives, which make companies join the green movement.

LED Street Lights’ 3 Types of Efficiency

  • LED Chip Efficiency

A LED chip is the main component of LED, which converts the electrical energy into the light with   Monocrystalene being the key material. LED chips can be either high-powered or low-powered, color green, red or blue, square or wafer, and 8mil, 9mil, 12mil, 14mil, etc. in size. The quality of LED chip can be evaluated primarily through its die brightness and light attenuation.

At Sunmaster, we are using the COB chip BXCD45 (460-480mW) which is the best type in BXCD Bridgelux family. The efficiency of this LED chip is about 160-170 lm/watt.

  • LED Bulb Efficiency

Now is the time when LED bulbs is projected to replace CFLs since manufacturers have addressed concerns about it including price and light focus. Compared to CFLs and incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs are much cost-effective and energy-efficient. See comparison table below by Earth Easy:

When the chip is combined into the COB bulb, the efficiency of the whole bulb will drop a little, approximately 15% to 20% due to many factors like light beam angle, LED chip assembling, silicone gel, and power supply among others. So the whole LED COB bulb efficiency is approximately 130-140 lm/watt.

  • LED Whole Lamp Efficiency

When the LED COB bulb is assembled into the lamp housing, the efficiency of the whole lamp will  drop a    bit, approximately 6% to 10% due to secondary optical lens (which is necessary for better beam angle), housing angle, etc. Hence, the final output efficiency will be 120-130 lm/watt.

Sunmaster LED Light Technology

By now, you probably have realized the various factors affecting the whole LED lamp efficiency. These 3 components (LED chip, LED bulb, and LED lamp) have individual features, which would yield gradual decrease in efficiencies when used altogether. This is something you must understand for you not to be deceived by LED suppliers or manufacturers who don’t explain these factors affecting LED efficiencies.

In Sunmaster, as per our company policy, we will always use the best efficiency LED chip. We will never degrade because we are committed to providing our customers only the best quality of LED lighting system currently available in the market. We are always up-to-date with LED technology developments, so once more efficient LED chip comes out, we will use the upgraded type and inform you of it promptly.
